ProStart Culinary Team at Waterford High School won 1st place at the CT ProStart Invitational Culinary Competition sponsored by the CT Restaurant Association.

Congratulations to WHS culinary team! They will represent Connecticut at the 11th Annual National Prostart Invitational this April, competing against 40 other states. Our culinary team traveled to Lincoln Culinary Institution, Shelton, CT on Friday, February 3rd to show off their skills and abilities. Team members included Kourtney Stoy, Angelica Sonnema, Moriah Shafer, Holly Leal and Matthew Henn. Teams participating in the culinary competition demonstrated their creative abilities through the preparation of a three-course meal in only 60 minutes, on two butane burners. Their performance during the practical session was observed and rated by chef judges from leading colleges' and restaurant groups. They were required to create a menu, analyze food cost and come up with portion costs, along with competing in knife skills and chicken fabrication. They have earned their spot to represent Connecticut at the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore, MD which will be held April 27-29, 2012, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.
