Hope the Chihuahua is Available for Adoption
After an intense week for Hope the Chihuahua and the Waterford-East Lyme Animal Shelter, the adoption process is open for this strong dog.

Just six days after Hope the Chihuahua was abandoned at the Waterford-East Lyme animal shelter, a week of uncertain fate as euthanizing was a real possibility due to health issues, she is now ready to find her new forever home.
“We are very proud of this girl,” Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control Officer Robert Yuchniuk said via Facebook. “In six days, she has made a 180-degree turnaround and is now behaving like a wonderful dog. I am pleased to announce that Hope will be placed up for adoption!”
Initially, Hope was set to spend her days at a rescue organization but since she is doing so well healthwise, she can go to a home.

There are some requirements for Hope’s new home. Experience with Chihuahuas and senior dogs are must-haves.
“Seniors often require much more care at home and the vet.,” Yuchniuk said.

Hope needs a home with no small children.
“Hope likes things slow and quiet,” he said. “Sadly, small children move way too fast for her liking.”
How to Apply
Do not call Yuchniuk, the shelter or the Police Department. Instead, send a direct message via Facebook or email at welac@att.net.
Adoption applications must be completed and returned to the animal shelter in person.
“No one will be considered as a potential adopter unless they come to the shelter and meet the dog and myself,” he said. “We will be trying very hard to pick just the right home for Hope.”
Beginning Thursday, August 7, people can meet Hope and complete adoption applications between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“I know through the thousands of comments that many people were interested in Hope,” Yuchniuk said. “We will do everything in our power to find her the best forever home.”
