Blue Back Square To Rise Up And Be More Artistic
West Hartford shopping Mecca announces deal with regional arts organization to add more art to its facility.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — What some call a mere shopping destination is called by others an "outdoor lifestyle center."
And to prove that, Blue Back Square and RiseuP for Arts are teaming up to turn the shopping Mecca into a place for artistic endeavors to flourish.
According to a joint statement issued by both organizations Tuesday, Blue Back Square plans to add more art to the property, which is located at 65 Memorial Road.

It plans to do so by incorporating local artists and design into areas of the facility "to help bring color, creativity and art to life. "
The project is a collaboration between Blue Back and RiseUP for Arts, a Connecticut-based nonprofit aimed at creating public art inclusive and accessible to anyone.

To showcase a variety of local talent and style, RiseUP has tapped local artists to create murals, paint window storefronts and to create ‘Instagrammable’ moments at the property, "which will serve as beautiful, colorful public art for all to enjoy throughout the season."
For example, a mural on the property facing Raymond Road was just completed this month with Jillian Goeler which consists of a ‘Welcome to Blue Back Square’ messaging.
This month, the property plans to add some rotating murals on windows.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with RiseUP on this new art initiative,” said Robyn Rifkin, property manager at Blue Back Square. “With the summer months upon us and more visitors strolling through our property, we felt it was a great time to show off all the talents of our local art community in a fun, family-friendly way.”
Executive Director of RiseUP for Arts, Matt Conway, agreed.
“Blue Back Square is giving local artists paid opportunities to shine," he said. "With the theme of the murals being 'Instagrammable' they will be shared widely giving the artists and local businesses great exposure as well.
"Site specific public art is critical in developing a sense of place in any community gathering area.”
