Bi-weekly curbside pick-up of yard waste has also resumed as of the week of April 3. Pick-up is on the same day as recycling.
The new telephone number for the recycling center is 860-837-3200.
After 30 years, the landfill at Brixton Street has closed permanently and the manufacturing of leaf compost and wood mulch has ended.
As of April 5, public works only serves as a transfer station of acceptable recycling material.
Commercial yard waste and clean wood will no longer be accepted at the Town’s Yard Waste & Recycling Center.
This includes material brought in by permitted residents with side businesses that generate frequent volumes of yard waste and clean wood material.
Contractors may bring their yard waste to private facilities in Bloomfield, Farmington and Southington, three sites that manufacture compost and mulch.
Only permitted residents with acceptable recycling materials and yard waste generated from their residence will be accepted.
West Hartford will transfer these materials to their final destination for recycling.
The new policy would also eliminate leaf vouchers from the Fall Leaf Collection Program.
Residents are encouraged to notify their contractors now of this change.
"We strongly encourage residents to buy their annual permits on line and bring your receipt to the Recycling Center shed to obtain your windshield permit sticker," wrote the town in a recent announcement.
In-person permit sales at the public works office are held Wednesday through Friday only. Proof of residency and valid motor vehicle registration are required.
The West Hartford Public Works office at 17 Brixton St. will be open for residents to purchase new 2023-24 yard waste permits in person.
