CPR Training Sessions A Rousing Success, West Hartford FD

More than 150 people showed up at West Hartford's Blue Back Square Thursday to learn 'hand-only' CPR, which could save a life.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A special "pop-up" training session on CPR proved to be quite successful this week, according to the West Hartford Fire Department.

On Thursday at Blue Back Square, firefighters hosted a walk-up, public training session for "hands-only' CPR at Blue Back Square in West Hartford.

According to both the West Hartford Fire Department and West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241, the event drew more than 150 people in less than three hours.

"Hands-only" CPR is seen as a potentially life-saving stopgap that bridges the time between when a patient goes into cardiac arrest and responders can arrive.

According to West Harford Firefighters Local 1241's Facebook page, WHFD Apparatus Operator/Paramedic Bill Schappert and WHFD Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Traber conducted the training sessions.

The firefighters union said the two were "focusing on how effective compressions and early notification to emergency services will help save a life."

Via Twitter, the WHFD said it will be hosting more such events in the coming months and urged folks to follow them on Twitter to find out when.

"What a great event. We will have more training coming up over the next few months. Follow us so you don’t miss out," wrote the WHFD.
