West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241 is hosting a special event tonight at 6 p.m. to discuss and teach the benefits of "hands-only" CPR.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — When the heart stops and somebody nearby knows CPR, the chances of a positive outcome are almost always enhanced, experts say.
Thursday night, Aug. 11, West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241 will be out in the community to espouse the virtues and necessity of knowing CPR.
They will be at Farmington Avenue, near Westfield Bank and the Mecca Noodle Bar, from 6 to 9 p.m. to do just that.

The topic of their program will be what's called "hands-only CPR."
"We'll have a discussion and get you comfortable with chest compressions. Stop by," West Hartford firefighters said in a Facebook post.

According to the American Red Cross, "hands-only CPR" is a life-saving stopgap measure a bystander can take until professional medical professionals can arrive.
