Fire Displaces Family, Significantly Damages West Hartford Home
Crews battled the fire on Thursday evening.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A fire significantly damaged a home and displaced a family of five – two adults and three children – Thursday evening in West Hartford. Crews responded to the home on Brightwood Lane around 6:20 p.m. on the report of a garage fire, according to We-Ha.com.
We-Ha.com reports the fire was fully involved when crews arrived on the scene and the fire had spread from the garage to the home. All of the occupants made it safely out of the home and no injuries were reported.
The fire, which took about 90 minutes to bring under control, remains under investigation but officials said it appears to have been accidental and could have been cooking related, according to We-Ha.com. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family. The Red Cross responders included: Cheryl MacKenzie, Will Ana Steele and Karl Kuhn.

“The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire,” officials said in a news release. “In addition, a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more was provided.

“Those affected will connect with Red Cross caseworkers in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan. The Red Cross is able to provide assistance through the generosity of our donors and the commitment of our volunteers.”
