Major Pharmacy Chain To Close WeHa Store: Report
The pharmacy would be the second to close in West Hartford since September.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Two months after West Hartford learned of the closing of a CVS pharmacy in town, another major pharmaceutical chain appears to be leaving as well.
The Hartford Business Journal is reporting that Walgreens, whose corporate offices are in Deerfield, Ill., is shuttering its stores at 940 S. Quaker Lane, West Hartford, and 25 Main St., Bristol.
Citing a company spokesperson, the HBJ is attributing the closures to a variety of factors, also reporting Walgreens has faced significant financial challenges the past year related to lawsuits and claims associated with the opioid crisis.

Walgreens's impending closure, expected next month, comes after CVS closed its 978 Farmington Ave. store in September, reducing the amount of West Hartford CVS pharmacies to six.
According to Walgreens's store locator feature on its website, there are a total of three Walgreens in West Hartford, with stores also located at 668 Farmington Ave. and 324 N. Main St.

In the immediate aftermath of Rite Aid's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, the pharmacy giant announced that its Bethel location at 289 Greenwood Avenue would be closing. The remainder of the chain's stores in Connecticut appears to have dodged a bullet, for the time being at least. Rite Aid has signaled no disruptions, closures or otherwise, for their 26 remaining Connecticut pharmacies.
