West Hartford Police Announce Results of Latest Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign
Police targeted motorists who text and drive in the second "U Drive. U Text. U Pay" campaign.

The West Hartford Police Department participated in the Distracted Driving High Visibility Enforcement campaign from August 3 to August 16, 2015. The campaign was sponsored by the CT DOT Highway Safety Office. The past two weeks were the continuation of the campaign in which we participated in April 2015.
These are highlights of the August enforcement period:

- 321 infractions issued for distracted driving offenses.
- 17 infractions/summons issued for other MV violations
- 4 infractions issued for possession of marijuana.
Total statistics (including April 2015):
- 964 infractions for distracted driving offenses.
- 60 infractions/summons issued for other MV violations.
One of the goals of the campaign was to promote safe driving behaviors especially with the school year beginning on August 26, 2015.

The West Hartford Police Department strongly encourages all motorists to drive safely. We will be adding extra patrols around our schools for the beginning of the school year. We will continue enforcement for traffic violations including distracted driving, seat belts, speeding, and other moving offenses.
