Open Studios Tour in Weston on Saturday, Oct. 8

Local artist are opening galleries to showcase artwork in Weston CT this weekend.

INVITES VISITORS TO TOUR THE STUDIOS OF LOCAL ARTISTS

Color and light, texture and depth – tools used by the artist that bring to life a thought, a mood, or a feeling. Creativity comes to life on Saturday, October 8th in this quaint Connecticut town just 60 minutes north of New York City. The public is warmly invited to meet the artists who will share their inspiration through painting, sculpture, and textiles, at an open studios event.

Just north of exit 42 on the Merritt Parkway, surrounded by rolling hills and the beautiful Fall foliage, visitors can enjoy a relaxing afternoon at nine studios. Artists welcome you to visit their creative spaces, to learn about the art and to purchase a piece to take home with you at the end of the day while experiencing the warm colors of Autumn in New England.

The Fall Open Studio Tour is sponsored by WestonArts a nonprofit foundation dedicated to preserving art and music, art education and scholarships to students who continue their studies in the arts.

The tour begins at Weston Town Hall at 11:00 am and visitors will be given a map to the nine studios so that they can enjoy the day at their own pace. Registration continues all day until 3:30pm (the tour concludes at 5pm) and costs $10 per person (children under 12 are free). “Families are encouraged to join us. We love the idea of an interactive experience between visitors and artists and a chance to start a conversation and learn more about the art.”, said Claudia Hahn, Chair of the WestonArts Board. "Weston is the quintessential New England town with its colonial homes and traditional churches against the backdrop of the hues of orange, red and yellow. Be sure to bring your cameras and enjoy."

Artists who will be open for the day include:

Frances Palmer – Frances’ ceramics are widely collected and have been featured in many national magazines, such as House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, and Better Homes and Gardens.

Hans Wilhelm – Hans’ illustrations and characters can be found in 200 children’s titles that have sold 42 million copies and translated in over 20 languages.

Judy Henderson -- Judy is best known for her ceramics, paintings and drawing of playful subjects,

patterns, color, and contrast of black and white.

Margaret Brooks -- Dr. Margaret Brooks has been a sculptor for over 25 years and studied with four prominent national sculptors.

Keith Brooks -- Keith Brooks is a painter of landscapes and portraits and teaches at "Art

with Friends" at the Weston Senior Center.

Ellen Schiffman -- Ellen has been a professional artist for close to 25 years, exhibiting her work at shows and galleries nationwide.

Joe Fucigna -- Fucigna is a multimedia artist whose work is rooted in process, play and the innate qualities of the materials used.

Leslie Giuliani -- Ms. Giuliani has been an arts instructor for over 25 years, specializing in encaustic and the materials of making artwork.

Ellen Panepinto -- Eileen is a mixed media artist, painter and collagist who has exhibited in numerous

group shows in NYC and CT.
