Kyle Navin, 27, was addicted to heroin, owed his parents $133,000 for his house in Bridgeport, and he was being cut out of his parents will.
All of the above set off what investigators describe as a murderous plot involving Navin and his girlfriend Jennifer Valiante, 31, of Westport, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Connecticut Post on Saturday.
August 4 was the last day anyone had seen Easton’s Jeffrey Navin, 56, and his wife Jeanette Navin, 55, before they mysteriously disappeared.
That mystery came to an end on Friday.
State Police announced that they have prepared a warrant for the arrest of the Navins’ son, Kyle, 27, and he will be charged with two counts of murder.
Kyle’s girlfriend, Jennifer Valiante, 31, of Westport, was charged Friday night for her alleged role in the murder of Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin. Specifics of her alleged involvement have not been released.
Valiante was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree hindering prosecution.
Possible Motive?
Two weeks before Jeanette Navin disappeared she told a friend she was fed up with her son over his drug addiction and failure to pay them back, the warrant states. Jeanette Navin said they planned to remove their son from the will and cut him off financially.
Texts between Kyle Navin and his girlfriend reveal that money was on his mind, the warrant states.
“We need to figure out what the best way to take them down whether it is get some money out of them somehow (expletive) him at the business the house something we got to figure out I’m got to be real smart and do it quick, according to the arrest warrant obtained by the Connecticut Post.
Another text between the two states, “It would solve every single problem and give us a wealthy amazing life.”
The Search
Investigators searched throughout the state for months looking for the Navins and law enforcement said early on that Kyle Navin was a “person of interest” in the disappearance of his parents. The search included a Putnam landfill.
But on Thursday, Oct. 29, the owner of 89 Norfield Road in Weston went to police and said officers needed to check something suspicious on his property.
The bodies were discovered by two workers as they found a blue tarp with duct tape under a pile of brush, the Connecticut Post reports.
The property had been unoccupied for the past 10 years. By Friday afternoon it was confirmed that the remains were in fact the missing couple and by Friday evening a warrant was prepared for Kyle Navin’s arrest on murder charges.
The warrant has not yet been served on Kyle Navin because he was ordered held on unrelated federal weapons charges on Friday afternoon. His bond was set at $2.5 million.
Valiante, 31, was held on a $2 million bond pending her court date of Nov. 2.
Police said the Navin family is asking for privacy at this time.
