Weston Officially Appoints New Superintendent

The Weston BOE has officially appointed William McKersie as the district's new superintendent.

GREENWICH, CT- Call it the superintendent shuffle. Some of Fairfield County's highly-regarded school systems have recently switched or are in the process of hiring new public school superintendents.

The Weston Board of Education has officially appointed current Greenwich Superintendent William McKersie as the head of its school system for the next school year. Superintendent Colleen Palmer is moving from Weston to Westport.

“It is clear that Dr. McKersie’s expertise in supporting academic excellence, his belief in and emphasis on the whole child, his expectations for in-depth professional development and teacher support, and his respectful and collegial dialogue with all stakeholders, made this a great match for us,” said Weston Board of Education Chair Ellen Uzenoff.

McKersie announced in April that he wouldn't seek a renewal of his Greenwich contract. Not long after it was revealed he was a finalist for the Weston superintendent job. Greenwich plans to consider internal and external candidates to fill an interim superintendent position.

Twelve candidates submitted applications for the Weston job and McKersie came out as the finalist.

McKersie became the superintendent of Greenwich in 2012. He'll move to a considerably smaller district. Weston has about 2,400 students compared to Greenwich's 9,000. Both school systems are regarded as academically excellent.

“In establishing our needs, and developing our vision for the future, all stakeholders had input into what the best candidate would bring to the district. Dr. McKersie met every exemplar that we established for our new leader," Uzenoff said.
