Coronavirus Update: State Confirms 13 Deaths In Westport

More than 2,000 people​ across the state have died from the new coronavirus, according to state health officials.

WESTPORT, CT — The number of Westport residents who have died of complications from the new coronavirus (COVID-19) is 13 as of Monday, according to the state Department of Public Health, which for the first time has released the number of deaths for each Connecticut community.

Westport officials had not publicly reported a coronavirus-related fatality since the town's first on April 2. Weston, which shares the health district with Westport, has had two deaths as a result of COVID-19 as of Monday, according to state health officials.

More than 2,000 people across the state have died from the virus, and there have been just under 26,000 confirmed cases of the virus in Connecticut.

Despite the state's death toll reaching 2,012 on Monday, there was a drop of eight net hospitalization cases on Monday, which is emerging as the key statistic state officials are using to determine when Connecticut can reopen.

The total number of hospitalizations statewide as of Monday was 1,758.

According to Gov. Ned Lamont, the state is likely a week to 10 days away from an announcement about certain businesses that can be reopened in a limited capacity, though he may release preliminary guidance later this week.
