Residents Can Help Westport Police Obtain A New K-9 Officer

The Westport Police Department is seeking public assistance to help raise money to cover the costs associated with K-9 Chase, including his purchase, training and care.

A GoFundMe account has been set up and the Trap Falls Kennel Club (TFKC) is raising $10,500 to support the Westport Police Department’s purchase of Chase.

The Town of Westport share the GoFundMe post on its Facebook page. “With the addition of a new Police K-9, Westport Police Department needs assistance raising funds to cover the costs associated with K-9 “Chase,” including his purchase, training and care. With the addition of “Chase” to our ranks, we will be able to better serve our community and surrounding communities.”

According to the post, “the $10,500 procured by TFKC through this GoFundMe page will be donated directly to the Westport Police Department so they are able to bring Chase to Westport. AKC Reunite will also provide matching funds of up to $5,000 to help the department purchase their new police K-9.”

As of Saturday, $580 of the $10,500 goal has been raised.

The department said, “Since its inception in the mid 1980’s the Westport Police K-9 Unit has been run off donations from the community including Dr. Joan Poster of Poster’s Animal Hospital and Bill Mitchell of Mitchell’s of Westport. It would not be in existence if it were not for the generous support of the public and dog lovers alike.”

It added, “We encourage dog lovers in Connecticut to pitch in and keep the K-9 units healthy and strong in our state. Please donate what you can to ensure our community has this vital resource that helps our police officers and citizens stay safe.”
