Car Theft, Forgery, Larceny: Wilton Police Arrest Log For Jan. 15-21

WILTON, CT — Car theft, identity theft and forgery were at the top of the Wilton Police Department's arrest log last week.

On Jan. 19, at around 2:30 in the morning, Wilton patrol officers spotted a black 2019 Subaru Legacy on Danbury Road without license plates, according to their report. The car moved north on Danbury Road, ignoring a red light at the intersection of Belden Hill Road and Ridgefield Road, and continued at a high speed on Ridgefield Road, police said. Due to icy road conditions, the officers opted not to initiate a stop but continued to monitor the area in case of a potential crash.

Later, the car was discovered crashed into a tree at the junction of Ridgefield Road and Drum Hill Road. One passenger, an 18-yeara-old from 60 Howe Street, New Haven, remained at the scene and surrendered to officers. The driver and another passenger fled the scene, according to police.

Police charged the New Haven man with larceny of a motor vehicle, and took him to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation. Following his medical clearance, he was transferred to Wilton PD for processing and later transferred to Stamford Superior Court.

On Nov. 30, 2023, Wilton police apprehended a 32-year-old Brooklyn, NY, man on charges related to stolen and forged checks. At the time of his arrest, police say the man had a substantial quantity of stolen, fake, fraudulent, and forged checks in his possession. These checks were linked to multiple jurisdictions, including victims from Wilton.

Further investigation based on leads from Wilton resulted in the issuance of a follow-up arrest warrant for the NY man, according to police. The new charges included first-degree attempted larceny and third-degree forgery.

On Jan. 19, the man was taken into custody at Stamford Superior Court during a normally scheduled appearance for the prior Wilton police case. He was set to be arraigned later on the same day and is being held on a $75,000 bond.

On Jan. 20, Wilton police took a 30-year-old Burlington, VT, man into custody on an active arrest warrant. The Vermont man was accused of fraudulently opening financial accounts under other people's names. He was unable to post his $40,000 bond and was scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 22.
