Decision Reached On Probation Of Wilton Man: Report

Former Norwalk teacher John Tate, who lives in Wilton, was convicted in the 2010 sexual assault of a former student.

NORWALK, CT — Convicted former Brien McMahon High School teacher John Tate, who was accused of probation violations, will not have to return to prison to serve out the reminder of his sentence, reports the Stamford Advocate.

In his decision Thursday, Judge Richard Comerford said he did not find the violations to be serious enough to warrant a return to prison. Among the violations Tate was accused of were not properly notifying his probation officer of a possible move out of state, and possessing alcohol for which he is prohibited.

Tate, who lives in Wilton, was convicted in the 2010 sexual assault of a former student at the high school. He was placed on probation for 20 years, and had to register as a sex offender.
