Fighting and Loaded Firearms Lead to Serious Charges

Wilton has an ordinance that prohibits the discharge of firearms within town lines. So it's curious, then, that a resident of Huckleberry Hill Rd. would feel the need to keep at least four guns loaded in his home.

Police responded to a report of a domestic violence incident at 150 Huckleberry Hill Road on July 7. The report said that Charles Garcia, 44, of Wilton was refusing to move one of his vehicles to allow his wife to leave for work.

Garcia was not at the scene at the time of the officers' arrival but through a subsequent investigation, police determined that during the early morning hours Garcia had engaged in an altercation with his wife.

At one point during the dispute, Garcia allegedly brandished a firearm. After searching the home, police officers located four loaded guns.

Garcia also had a juvenile living in the home with him, who eventually gained control of the weapon Garcia was brandishing during the earlier dispute. The juvenile refused to give the gun back to Garcia until he provided the keys to a locked storage cabinet, which contained additional firearms.

Garcia was eventually charged with risk of injury to a minor, second degree threatening, unlawful storage of a firearm and disorderly conduct. He was held on $50,000 bond and had a July 8 court date.
