Fire Log: Clogged Sink, Transformer Explosion

A plugged and overflowing sink and a transformer explosion mark the fire department's week.

Sunday, June 6, 2010

  • 9:11 AM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 12:35 PM: Old Driftway Drive, welfare check.  FD requested to assist police with checking on the status of a resident who had not been seen for a number of days.
  • 1:51 PM: Catalpa Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 3:47 PM: Rocky Brook, wires down.  Upon arrival FD personnel found tree had fallen down across the road and taken the electrical wires down with it.   FD personnel secured the area and notified CL&P.
  • 4:08 PM: Scarlet Oak Drive, fire alarm.  Accidental activation of the fire alarm system, no fire or hazards present.

Monday, June 7

  • 10:32 AM: Pimpewaug Road, fire alarm.  Accidental activation of the fire alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 11:45 AM: Ridgefield Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 1:15 PM: Cannon Road, water evacuation.  Upon arrival firefighters found water leaking down into an apartment from the floor above.  FD personnel had to force entry into upstairs apartment and found a clogged sink left on and over flowing.  Firefighters shut off water to sink, and power to building.  Owner advised to have an electrician check the electrical system, and a plumber fix the sink.
  • 8:15 PM: Weeburn Lane, smoke in the area.  Upon investigation FD personnel found the source to be a resident grilling.

  • 7:00 AM: Cedar Road, carbon monoxide alarm.  Upon arrival FD personnel investigated and metered the building, no readings found.
  • 10:55 AM: Vailview Road, fire alarm.  Accidental activation of the fire alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 2:15 PM: Hubbard Road, FD requested to assist police with forcing entry in to a structure.
  • 6:50 PM: Cavalry Road, wires down.  Upon arrival FD personnel found a tree had fallen down and taken the electrical wires down with it.  FD personnel secured area and notified CL&P.

Wednesday, June 9

  • 2:15 Seeley Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 5:50 AM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 12:00 PM: Danbury Road, fire alarm.  Accidental activation of the fire alarm system, no fire or hazards present.
  • 3:05 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 4:00 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 7:05 PM: Signal Hill Road, vehicle fire.  Upon arrival FD personnel found a car on fire in a driveway near the home.  Firefighters extinguished the fire, and checked for extension.  Cause of fire under investigation.
  • 8:55 PM: Rivergate Drive, transformer explosion.  Report of aloud explosion and problem with the power in the area.  Upon investigation FD personnel found a transformer on a utility pole had an explosion.  Area secured, CL&P notified.

  • 4:10 AM: Spoonwood Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 1:46 PM: Hulda Hill Road, smell of smoke in the area.  Area searched, nothing found.

Saturday, June 13

  • 10:08 AM: Kensett Avenue, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care, and assisted EMS and paramedic.
