Fire Log: Tornado Assistance, Propane Leak

Firefighters assist with the fallout of serious weather in Brideport and clean up a leak in town.

Sunday, June 22, 2010

  • 7:00 AM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 1:15 PM: Belden Hill Road, propane leak.  Construction crew reported damaging a propane gas line, and being unable to shut it off.  Upon arrival Firefighters shut off propane supply at tank, ventilated and metered the building.   Forman advised to have the propane company come and repaint the line, prior to turning gas back on.
  • 8:50 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care and assisted EMS and paramedic.

Monday, June 23

  • 10:23 AM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 12:01 PM: Middlebrook Farm Road, gas alarm.  Accidental activation of the alarm system, no leak detected.
  • 2:00 PM: Danbury Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 3:55 PM: Hurlbutt Street, motor vehicle accident.  Two-car head on type accident with entrapment.  Firefighters use the Jaws of Life to remove one person who was entrapped in his vehicle.  FD personnel assisted with treating two injured parties, as well as contained and cleaned u a fluid spill.
  • 6:10 PM: Spruce Meadow Road, gas leak.  Upon arrival FD personnel detect a propane leak, source determined to be a damaged line.  Firefighters shut off supply tank, and metered area.  Occupant advised to contact propane and have line repaired.
  • 6:27 PM: Belden Hill Road, carbon monoxide incident.  Activated carbon monoxide alarm, FD personnel metered and investigated, no carbon monoxide detected.
  • 7:03 PM: Drum Hill Road, odor investigation.  Report of a strange odor, FD personnel investigated and metered the area, nothing found.

  • 10:30 AM: Silver Springs Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care and assisted EMS and paramedic.
  • 2:15 PM: Exeter Lane, wires down.  Upon arrival FD personnel found electrical wires down in multiple areas.  Area secured, CL&P notified.
  • 4:00 PM: City of Bridgeport, storm assistance.  Connecticut Urban Search and Rescue Team was activated due to Tornado in Bridgeport.  Wilton Firefighter who is a member of the team responded to assist with searching storm damaged areas of the city.
  • 5:25 PM: Deacons Lane, tree on wires.  Upon arrival FD personnel observed a tree had shifted and was in contact with the electrical wires.  Area secured CL&P notified.

Wednesday, June 25

  • 9:14 AM: River Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care and assisted EMS and paramedic
  • 9:59 AM: Danbury Road, transformer fire.  Upon arrival of FD personnel, no fire observed.  A breaker appeared to be tripped, CL&P notified.
  • 11:26 PM: Crosswicks Ridge Road, medical emergency.  Firefighters provided patient care and assisted EMS and paramedic.
