Police Log: Cat Shot, Napping Under the Influence

• Police received a report of two industrial air conditioning units that were stolen during last week's heat wave from their 19 Danbury Road location. There are typically four units behind the building and two were disconnected with some of their electrical connections cut. Police said the perpetrators were "careful about what they were cutting, which seemed to indicate someone familiar with the installation of that type of unit." The two units were valued at $10,000.

Wednesday, July 7

• Charles Garcia, 44, of Wilton was charged with risk of injury to a minor, second-degree threatening, unlawful storage of a firearm and disorderly conduct. You can read more about the incident here.

Thursday, July 8

• Ellen Byrne, 49, of Wilton and Walter Cromwell, 78, of Norwalk were involved in a two-car accident. Cromwell allegedly crossed the double yellow line on Belden Hill Road, struck Byrne's vehicle, and continued to travel south. Neither operator was injured and Cromwell later said he didn't realize he had struck another vehicle. He was eventually arrested for evading responsibility and failure to drive right. Police said age may have played a role in the incident.

Friday, July 9

• Residents on Huckleberry Hill Road came in to police headquarters to report that their cat had been shot by some sort of a pellet gun. The incident occurred on Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The cat, which is typically outside, was walking around injured when the owners returned home. They took the cat to their vet, where it was determined that it had been shot by a pellet gun, apparently "injuring the animal's knee," though police weren't entirely sure that cats had knees. The cat may need an operation but is likely to survive and the case remains open as an officer was going to follow up later this week.

Saturday, July 10

• Carol Wilson, 40, of Ridgefield was charged with failure to appear in the second degree stemming from March motor vehicle infractions. She was held on $1,000 bond and has a July 19 court date.

Sunday, July 11

• A resident called police to report an unknown male asleep in his vehicle in the resident's driveway. Upon arrival, police observed the male sleeping in his vehicle and eventually detected the smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. During the investigation, a -57-year-old man of Westport* became combative and was placed in custody, police said. He was charged with DUI and failure to carry a license.

Monday, July 12

• Pedro De Luna Hernandez, 52, of Danbury was stopped for failure to drive in an established lane. Hernandez was also unable to provide valid proof of insurance or a driver's license and was taken into custody and held on $250 bond. He has a July 22 court date.
• Two 17-year-old Wilton males were cited for trespassing on the South Norwalk Second Taxing District Reservoir Company's property. They had gained access to an area clearly marked "no trespass" beyond a gated area of woods.
