Police Log: Messy Domestics and Shoplifting

• A verbal dispute turned physical on Wolfpit Road when Melissa Calafell, 44, of Wilton and her husband Ronald Calafell, 39, engaged in an altercation during which it is alleged that the husband pushed his wife down causing abrasions to her arms and legs and also grabbed a phone she was using and threw it against the wall, believing she was calling 911. Ronald Calafell was charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency call. Melissa Calafell, meanwhile, allegedly struck Mr. Calafell and caused him to suffer a ripped shirt and scratches along his neck. No emergency assistance was needed and Melissa Calafell was charged with disorderly conduct. Both were arrested and released on PTAs.
• Kenneth Hoffman, 54, of Wilton was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief in the third degree as a result of a domestic incident with his "soon-to-be-ex-wife" in the parking lot of the Avalon Springs complex at 25 River Road. After a verbal dispute, Hoffman's wife reportedly attempted to leave in her car but was blocked by Hoffman, who positioned himself physically in front and behind her vehicle. He also apparently put his head inside her car when she was trying to leave, arguing with her inside the vehicle, and she tried to roll up the window and leave with his head still inside the car. Afterward, Hoffman reportedly sat on the hood of the vehicle, causing damage to it and leading to the criminal mischief charge. As Mrs. Hoffman eventually drove away, she allegedly ran over Mr. Hoffman's foot, but no EMS attention was required. Mrs. Hoffman later went in to the police station to report the incident. Mr. Hoffman, meanwhile, was later charged and released on a PTA with a June 23 court date.
• Karen Schulz, 53, of Westport was charged with larceny in the sixth degree after she was discovered by a store employee shoplifting products that had been deposited into her purse. The total value of the products was $33. She was released on a PTA and has a July 2 court date.

Wednesday, June 23

• Lindsay Marie Grassi, 27, of Fairfield was found at fault for an accident which occurred on Danbury Road near Westport Road. She was cited for unsafe passing/cutting in. She was further taken into custody on a $500 bond since her Nevada operator's license was suspended, in addition to her Nevada registration. Grassi did not have valid insurance on her automobile, either. She was later released and has a July 8 court date. David Grant, 50, of Stamford was also involved in the accident, but was not injured. No EMS was require at the scene for either party.
• Matthew Weber, 18, of Westport was arrested and charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor. A full report is available here.
• Edgar Zumba, 27. of Danbury was arrested after being stopped for not having a front license plate. Upon stopping him, police said Zumba could not produce any id or insurance for the vehicle. He was charged with failure to display numbered plates, driving without a license and driving without insurance. He was released on $500 bond and has a July 2 court date.
