Report Of 'Hand Grenade' In Wilton School False: Police
The Stamford Police Bomb Squad was called to Middlebrook School in Wilton Monday Afternoon, for a false alarm about a "hand grenade"
WILTON, CT — The Stamford Police Bomb Squad responded to a report of "a device believed to be a hand grenade" at Middlebrook School in Wilton on Monday. The threat proved false, according to the Wilton Police Department.
A Middlebrook School administrator called Wilton Police Dispatch at about 1:10 p.m. with the report. The Stamford Bomb Squad was alerted and arrived on scene at 2:04 p.m., according to Wilton Police Lt. Anna Tornello.
The school adopted a "secure" protocol, while patrol cops and school resource officers secured the scene. Such a protocol results in all personnel getting inside and locking outside doors. The device believed to be a "grenade" was discovered near the batting cages, which are far from the school building. As an additional safety measure, classes that were closer to the area where the device was located were moved to a section of the building farther away from it, Tornello said.
