Residents Caught Clicking It
Two different motor vehicle monitoring campaigns yield some holiday tickets and arrests, but also find Wiltonians using their seat belts by and large.

It looks like Wiltonians already know to click it, whether a ticket's involved or not.
Between May 24 and June 4, the Wilton Police Department conducted their "Click It or Ticket" campaign in conjunction with their Holiday Selective Enforcement campaign. The two yielded 230 motor vehicle stops all told.
A pre-enforcement survey for seatbelts showed a 91 percent compliance rate in town. At the conclusion of the campaign, Wilton Police Lieutenant Don Wakeman said compliance had risen to 94 percent.

"There was some improvement," he added. "We're always happy to see a raise in the compliance rate before and after. Actually, 91 percent at the beginning is not too bad. That's higher than we've seen in previous years."
The "Click It or Ticket" campaign is usually done twice a year, in May and November. This time around, there were 29 tickets issued for seatbelt violations and two warnings.

The Selective Enforcement campaign, meanwhile, is driven by a year-long grant that the police department applies for every year and covers various holidays throughout the year. The locations vary around town and the department receives 75 percent reimbursement for the cost of overtime for the officers deployed to conduct it.
The Memorial Day Selective Enforcement campaign yeilded two DUIs, 29 speeding tickets, 56 warnings for speeding, 32 infractions tickets for other types of violations and 80 warnings for other violations.
