Sunday Performances Showcase Year-Long Efforts of Student Dancers
It’s a special year for students at the Wilton Dance Studio. The studio is celebrating 25 years of sharing dance with the community and putting on two performances for current students to share their work. The 2014 production features more than 200 students from seven area towns including more than 40 from Wilton. The shows are on Sunday, June 8 at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Wilton High School’s Clune Center for the Performing Arts. This 25th Anniversary show features three parts. The first act is a ballet, “The Forest,” including full professional sets and costumes. Its dancers tell the story of an enchanted forest filled with princesses, kings and magical creatures in a story that leaves the audience guessing what the ending will be.
Also included in the Spring Show 1 pm performance is Mother Goose’s Nursery Rhymes, featuring the studio’s youngest dancers from three years old through Kindergarten age. This show is designed to let each dance class take a turn on the stage while also making it comfortable for younger dancers just getting used to performing.
Finally, older students from the studio’s broad array of class styles perform in “All That Jazz,” a revue featuring jazz, tap, hip-hop, contemporary and Irish dance, as well as individual ballet performances. These reflect the work of a year of dance class and a fun variety of music styles, as well as student choreography from some classes.
Brenda Froehlich, Wilton native, owner and artistic director of the studio said, “We are so happy to share our 25th anniversary with this talented group of dancers. It’s our pleasure to bring the magic of dance in all its wonderful styles to the community in our Spring Shows. The dancers work so hard and we can’t wait for everyone to see the results of the efforts come to life on stage.”
This production of The Forest features a world-renowned quest principal dancer: Abraham Miha. Miha has danced nationally and internationally as a soloist and principal dancer, with such companies as Ballet Arizona, Hartford Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem and many others.
Wilton Dance Studio invites the community to enjoy a family-friendly production. The performance length is manageable for young children and it includes an intermission. Wilton Dance Studio’s Artistic Director Brenda Froehlich enhances the costumes and creates overall production concepts. Scenery is provided by Mark Froehlich of J.Galt Design, a nationally recognized theatrical backdrop company.
Choreography is by Mrs. Froehlich and Wilton Dance Studio Instructors and Choreographers Debra MacDonald, Hannah Stewart and Jennifer Spagnola. Community and parent volunteers contribute to the final performance as well.
