Wilton Library’s walls bursting with color with SCAN opening April 7

With more than 40 artists featured in the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown art exhibition opening at Wilton Library on Friday, April 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., there should be something for everyone to see. The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) is a non-profit association of artists from western Connecticut and surrounding areas. Artists of all skill levels work in a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, graphics, mixed media, and pencil. As diverse as the media is, that is how varied the subject matter and styles are as well. The reception is free and open to the public.

Now in its 47th year, SCAN members have brought the arts to the community with demonstrations featuring professional artists, art shows, classes, workshops and model sessions for artists to hone their talents and skills. Through their membership they provide scholarships to graduating seniors who have been accepted to art schools. The association was founded by Larry Newquist to fulfill a cultural need in Newtown and surrounding communities. Today it boasts a membership of over 200 artists, from Western Connecticut and the Hudson Valley of New York.

Adele Moros, current president of the association remarked about the Wilton Library exhibition, “We are delighted to be exhibiting in such a beautiful space. With more than 120 works, the library is a wonderful showcase for our talented artists and we are very much looking forward to the opening.”

The exhibition runs through April 29. A majority of the works will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. Wilton Library hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 16.
