NEW DETAILS: Wilton's 'Bruins Owner' Faker Tried Scamming Cops
Police say he used the scam to get priority on tree removal, and in an attempt to get out of a moving violation...

WILTON, CT -- New details have emerged regarding the man Wilton police arrested on July 22 for criminal impersonation.
In February 2017 Jeffery Jacobs, 37, of Wilton and White Plains, NY, solicited the services of a tree company to remove a tree that had fallen on his Wilton residence during a storm. Jacobs had told the company that he was the owner of the Boston Bruins in an attempt prioritize the company's response to his residence, according to police.
Once the work was performed, an outstanding balance remained unpaid. Based on the dialogue in which Jacobs purported to be part of Bruins ownership, the tree company sent a bill with a past due amount to the franchise. Upon receipt, the security company for the franchise became suspicious as ownership of the Bruins has no connection with residences in Wilton.

At the time detectives made contact with Jacobs, and informed him to cease impersonating Bruins ownership or criminal charges may be pursued.
In November 2017, Jacobs was subject to a traffic stop for a motor vehicle violation by a Wilton officer. During the contact Jacobs told the officer he was part of Bruins ownership in an attempt to obtain leniency in the officer's enforcement action, according to the police report. The officer, being familiar with the previous investigation involving Jacobs, informed detectives of his contact and the fact that Jacobs continued to purport himself as the owner of the Bruins.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Jacobs in November 2017 for the charge of criminal impersonation.
On July 19, Jacobs was taken into custody following a motor vehicle stop in Wappingers Falls, NY, where he was held by the Duchess County Sheriff's Department on the active warrant pending extradition. Jacobs waived extradition and was taken into custody by Wilton officers on July 20, at which time he was transported to Wilton PD. Jacobs was fingerprinted, processed, and released later the same night on a $5,000 surety bond.
