Wilton Names New Chief of Police

Current Chief Robert Crosby is retiring in April.

WILTON, CT — The Wilton Police Commission announced Tuesday that it has selected Capt. John Lynch to be the next Chief of Police, replacing Chief Robert Crosby who is retiring in April.

Lynch will be the Town’s seventh Chief of Police. Crosby became chief in September 2015.

Lynch started with the Wilton Police Department in July 1985 as a dispatcher and Auxiliary Officer. He rose through the ranks and is currently the Operations Captain and designated as the department’s Executive Officer.

A strong proponent of community policing, Lynch started Wilton’s first Community Bike Patrol in 1996. Additionally during his career, Lynch has worked in nearly every capacity of the department.

Lynch has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and is currently pursuing a Master’s In Public Administration from POST University. He graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in 2011, "and has a wealth of training and experience that will serve him well as the department’s next leader," according to town officials.

Lynch has been a resident of Wilton for 17 years.

"His commitment to the Town of Wilton is apparent as a Board of Trustee member of the Wilton Historical Society, a Georgetown Fire Department volunteer, previous Wilton Ambulance Corp volunteer and 'A Better Chance' supporter, among others," officials added.
