Wilton Police Arrest Log For Mar. 13-19

WILTON, CT — Yanik Opoku, 30, of Stratford Avenue in Stratford, was taken into custody by Wilton police on Mar. 17 following an identity theft investigation. The inquiry originated on Oct. 10, 2021, when the Wilton Police Department received a complaint from a resident that someone fraudulently opened a credit by utilizing her personal identifying information.

Police say their investigation led them to suspect Opoku and charge him with second-degree identity theft. Police held Opoku on a $25,000 bond and scheduled him to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Mar. 20.

A pedestrian, injured and taken to Norwalk Hospital by Wilton EMS on Mar. 16 after being struck while crossing a crosswalk, is in stable condition, according to the WPD.

Police have charged Alexander J. Kurtz, 18, of Fox Run Road in Wilton with failure to grant the right of way at a crosswalk.

Kurtz was driving a 2018 Toyota Rav4 north on Kristine Lilly Way approaching a crosswalk leading from a south student parking lot to the sidewalk on the east side of Kristine Lilly Way when police say he struck a juvenile in the crosswalk.

The motorist told police that he did not see the pedestrian crossing and did not have time to react. The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Wilton EMS and is in stable condition.

On Mar. 13, Chevaughn Taylor, 24, of South Leonard Street in Waterbury, was taken into custody from the Danbury Police Department and brought to Wilton Police Department where he was processed.

Wilton police charged Taylor with interfering with an officer, driving without minimum insurance, reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, and two counts of illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension.

Taylor paid 10 percent of $20,000 court-set bond and was scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Mar. 20.
