Wilton Student Charged for Threat Made on Social Media

Police arrested a Wilton High School student for a threat of violence made on social media.

WILTON, CT — Police charged a Wilton High School student on a threat of violence made on social media.

The Wilton Police Department was notified at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Sunday of a video posted to a social media site involving a possible school threat, according to Lt. Robert Kluk.

The student who posted the video was identified immediately by members of the Department's Patrol and Youth Division, and police visited the residence of the student and the parents at 9:00 p.m., according to the police report.

"The interview of the student revealed that it was not meant as an actual threat and was posted to gain likes on the social media site," Kluk said. "The student appeared remorseful and understood the consequences of his actions."

The student told police that the video was taken down shortly after it was posted.

The student was charged with breach of peace, released into the custody of the parents, and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court later this month.

"The safety of the schools in our Wilton community is always a priority of the Department," Kluk said. "In light of the investigation the Department has increased their presence and visibility in the school areas."
