Wilton Student Has Tested Positive For Coronavirus

WILTON, CT — A student at Wilton High School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a notification from Schools Superintendent Kevin Smith sent to parents on Saturday. The student is recovering at home, showing only mild symptoms.

On Friday night, Wilton Health Department contract tracers began contacting people who had close contact with the student both inside and outside of school, First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice said in a news release. School administrators began contacting individuals who were in classrooms or school spaces with the student, but did not have close contact.

Those who had close contact were directed to quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. People who did not have close contact were advised to monitor for symptoms.

Custodians worked over the weekend to deep clean the building, and classes resumed as scheduled on Monday. In the school's current hybrid attendance model, half the students attend in-school classes and the remainder learn remotely. Wilton schools switched to the hybrid model on Sept. 8 after opening completely remotely on Aug. 31.

"We are reminded that the virus is insidious. Implementing our school mitigation strategies and engaging in wearing face coverings, practicing social distancing, hand washing and other pro-social behaviors will help keep our community safe," Smith said in the letter.
