The Yale Whiffenpoofs, the world’s oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella singing group, will be presenting a concert at Windsor’s Trinity United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 4 PM in the first concert of the year of the church’s Sacred Sounds Concert Series. The Whiffenpoofs, known for their perfect harmonies and fabulous entertainment have performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall and even on Saturday Night Live.
Founded in 1909, the Whiffenpoofs have sung for nearly every president since the early 1900’s and their iconic theme song has been recorded by everyone from Rudy Vallee to Bing Crosby to Elvis Presley. The “Whiffs” began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory’s Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs. Today, this exclusive group of singers and entertainers has become one of Yale’s most celebrated traditions, performing on every continent around the globe.
Other concerts in this year’s Sacred Sounds Concert Series include the Greater Hartford Handel Messiah Community Sing on January 4, 2015 at 4 PM as well as a concert on May 30, 2015 by The Destiny Africa Children’s Choir.
