Gun Threats at Wilmington Shopping Center Lead to Felony Charges (mychesco.com) — Delaware State Police arrested a 37-year-old Wilmington man after he allegedly displayed a handgun and threatened to kill four people at Chestnut Run Shopping Center on Faulkland Road. Troopers later found him nearby with a loaded gun and charged him with multiple felony weapons and menacing offenses, underscoring ongoing safety concerns around local retail areas.
   

2. Morris Nichols renews downtown office lease until 2040 (delawarebusinesstimes.com) — A major corporate law firm, Morris Nichols, has renewed its lease in Wilmington's tallest building at 1201 N. Market Street through 2040, signaling long-term confidence in downtown. For residents, this means hundreds of high-paying legal jobs and continued activity supporting nearby restaurants, shops, and other businesses in the city's core.
   

3. Services for Msgr. George J. Brubaker, who had diverse ministries in 46 years as a priest, will be Sept. 14 (thedialog.org) — Wilmington Catholics are invited to honor Msgr. George J. Brubaker, whose funeral Mass will be celebrated Sept. 14 at the Cathedral of St. Peter, with burial at All Saints Cemetery on Kirkwood Highway. Brubaker, raised in Wilmington and ordained at St. Paul Church, served parishes across Delaware and Maryland and held key roles in the Diocese of Wilmington, the National Guard, and Catholic Relief Services.
   

4. Man charged in fatal Colonial Heights shooting near Wilmington (delawareonline.com) — A man has been charged with first-degree murder after a Sept. 6 shooting in Colonial Heights, just outside Wilmington, that left 32-year-old Donald Nave dead. New Castle County police say automated license plate readers helped them identify and arrest 31-year-old Hector Sanchez of Wilmington, who is being held on $1 million cash bail. Investigators are still seeking tips from anyone who witnessed or knows more about the incident.
   

5. Piffaro opens 2026-2027 season 'At the Sign of the Crumhorn' » Early Music America (earlymusicamerica.org) — Wilmington music lovers can catch Piffaro's Renaissance instruments live at Christ Church Christiana Hundred on October 18, plus additional Wilmington dates throughout the 2026–27 season. The Philadelphia-based ensemble is bringing historically informed performances, free student admission, and online streaming options, giving local residents several chances to experience early music close to home.
