2 People In BMW Killed After Colliding With Dump Truck In DC
Two people died in a car crash Tuesday evening on Interstate 695 in Washington, D.C., when their car collided with a dump truck.
WASHINGTON, DC — Two people died in a car crash Tuesday evening on Interstate 695 in Washington, D.C., when their car collided with a parked District of Columbia Public Works dump truck.
The Metropolitan Police Department said it is investigating the crash, which occurred at exit 1C on I-695 (Southeast Freeway).
At around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, a 2011 BMW was traveling eastbound on Southeast Freeway “at an apparent high rate of speed,” the MPD said in a news release. The driver lost control of the car and then ran into the dump truck, police said.

After colliding with the dump truck, the BMW then went across multiple lanes of traffic, hitting a 2004 Toyota MR2. The BMW then struck a jersey barrier and caught fire.
DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The two occupants of the BMW were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck was transported to the hospital with injuries and is expected to recover, WTOP reported. All lanes on the Southeast Freeway were reopened around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The identities of the two people killed in the crash are being withheld pending next of kin notification, police said.
