2nd Suspect Sought In Fatal Shooting Of Oxon Hill Man

D.C. Police are asking the public's help in identifying a suspect in connection with the July 4 fatal shooting of Antonio Gardiner.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are seeking the public's help in identifying a second suspect in connection with the July 4 fatal shooting of Antonio Gardiner of Oxon Hill, Maryland, according to a police release.

Officers from the First District responded around 10:57 p.m., on Saturday, to the McDonald's in 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, S.E., for the report of a shooting. They found Gardiner, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken by D.C. Fire and EMS to an area hospital for treatment, but all live-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.

"This violent attack on Mr. Gardiner was captured on the surveillance camera in the McDonald's and this was critical in identifying two suspects," Police Chief Peter Newsham said, during a Thursday night press briefing about the killing of 11-year-old Davon McNeal.

Acting on a D.C. Superior Court custody order Wednesday, detectives arrested a 14-year-old Southeast boy, and charged him with first degree murder in connection with Gardiner's death.

"We continue to search for an additional suspect in this case," Newsham said, adding that this suspect is believed to be connected with the Potomac Gardens area of the District.

On Thursday, MPD released surveillance photos of this second suspect. Police are asking anyone with information about this person's identity or location to call 202-727-9099 or send a text message to 50411.

Newsham extended his condolences to the families of Gardiner and McNeal, who were both killed on July 4.

"A young man who stopped at McDonald's for a bite to eat and boy who was attending a peace event with his family and with his community, the only word that comes to mind regarding these two homicides is senseless," he said.
