8 New DC Deaths Due To Coronavirus; 6,584 Confirmed Cases

The day after D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser extended her stay-at-home order by three weeks, D.C. Health reported 8 new coronavirus deaths.

WASHINGTON, DC — The D.C. Department of Health confirmed eight new deaths Thursday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of coronavirus deaths in the District to 358.

D.C. Health also confirmed 152 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the overall total to 6,584.

  • 46-year-old male
  • 52-year-old male
  • 54-year-old male
  • 63-year-old male
  • 65-year-old male
  • 67-year-old male
  • 75-year-old male
  • 76-year-old female

D.C. Health has confirmed 32,999 District residents have been tested for the coronavirus and 966 have recovered. Contact tracing investigations are focused positive cases tied to health care workers and first responders, senior care facilities, correctional and detention centers, child care facilities and facilities serving homeless individuals.

On Wednesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser extended her stay-at-home order three weeks. The original order was due to expire on Friday. District residents will need to stay at home and non-essential business will continue to remain closed through Monday, June 8.

Globally, more than 4.3 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 297,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 1.3 million people have been infected and over 84,000 people have died from COVID-19.
