Accused Potomac River Rapist Dies By Suicide In Jail: Reports

WASHINGTON, DC — Giles Warrick, the "Potomac River Rapist" who was awaiting trial for the 1998 murder of Christine Mirzayan, was found dead in his Washington, D.C. jail cell Saturday, according to multiple reports citing anonymous law enforcement sources.

Warrick's body was found around 8:30 a.m., sources told NBC Washington.

Warrick was accused of murdering Mirzayan and raping at least six other women in the District of Columbia and Montgomery County, Maryland, between 1991 and 1998. In 2019, Warrick was arrested in South Carolina after police said his DNA linked him to the attacks.

Mirzayan was walking back to her dorm at Georgetown when she was abducted near Canal Road and killed in a wooded area near the campus, according to NBC Washington. She was 29.

According to WTOP, Warrick's trial was slated to start in November and a court hearing was set for Monday.
