Capitol Police To Hold Recruitment Event One Year After Attack
The U.S. Capitol Police will be holding a recruiting information event on Jan. 7, 2022, as it seeks to recover from the Jan. 6 attacks.

WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Capitol Police will be holding two recruiting information events on Jan. 7, 2022, as the department still seeks to recover from the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump.
The information sessions, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Jan. 7, will provide an overview of the Capitol Police and its operations. The presentations also will contain information on how an applicant can navigate the USCP hiring process, including its initial assessment, background investigation, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.
Candidates should register for the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. information sessions.

The inspector general of the U.S. Capitol Police told Congress earlier this month that the agency has not done enough to improve its activities in the wake of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
In testimony before a Senate Rules Committee hearing about the Capitol Police’s efforts to revamp their procedures, Michael Bolton, the inspector general, said that “out of 200 security enhancements the department provided to the inspector general, only 61 of those items have supporting documentation to support that those enhancements have occurred."

Bolton also said about 200 officers have left the force since the Capitol riot. However, a Capitol Police spokesman told NBC News that 130 employees have retired or resigned since Jan. 6., nearly twice the number from the same period in 2020.
The agency is authorized for about 2,000 officers and currently has about 1,800.
