D.C. Gets $3 Million Community Policing Grant To Hire Officers

The money, awarded through a Department of Justice community policing initiative, will allow for 25 more officers in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department and District of Columbia government have received about $3 million through a Department of Justice grant that supports community policing.

This money will allow for 25 more officers in D.C., according to the Department of Justice.

The DOJ issued more than $139 million in grant funding to law enforcement agencies across the nation through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) hiring program.

The COPS Hiring Program (CHP) "is a competitive award program intended to reduce crime and advance public safety through community policing," according to a news release from the DOJ.
