DC Mayor: $25M Awarded To 10 Hospitals For Surge Response
Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser has awarded $25 million in grants to 10 local hospitals to prepare for a surge in response to COVID19.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser has awarded $25 million in grants to 10 local hospitals to prepare for a surge in response to the new coronavirus, the mayor announced Monday.
The funding will be used for supplies, equipment, personnel and construction and operation of temporary structures for testing and treatment of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
The hospitals who received grants are as follows:

- George Washington University Hospital: $5M
- Howard: $4.2M
- MedStar Washington Hospital Center: $4M
- UMC: $3.6M
- Sibley: $3.5M
- Children's Hospital: $1.9M
- MedStar Georgetown University Hospital: $1.2M
- BridgePoint – National Harbor: $674K
- BridgePoint – Capitol Hill: $457K
- Psychiatric Institute of Washington: $240K
Bowser announced last week the Washington Convention Center would be converted into an alternate care facility. While the goal is to never have to use the Convention Center, 500 beds will be ready by the first week of May just in case.
