Updated 4:15 p.m.: The all clear was given at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling around 3:30 p.m., according to a post on the base's official Facebook page. Building 412 was deemed all clear.

WASHINGTON, DC — A building at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling was evacuated and people in surrounding building were told to shelter in place for several hours Thursday after a suspicious package was discovered there, according to news reports.

An all-clear notice was given around 3:30 p.m. for Building 412, according to a post on the base's official Facebook page. No official word has come yet regarding the nature of the suspicious package and how much of a threat it posed.

The packaged was detected in Building 412 at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling around 12:15 p.m., according to a post on the base's Facebook page.

A base official confirmed that an explosive-ordnance disposal team had been deployed and 1,000-foot cordon established around the building, according to a Twitter post by WUSA9 assignment editor Ryan Sprouse.

First Lt. Kali Gradishar told Sprouse the building was evacuated and the explosive-ordnance disposal team deployed.

A base official confirmed for WTOP reporter Megan Cloherty that officials are taking reports of a suspicious package seriously. People in surrounding buildings have been told to shelter in place, according to Cloherty.

Early news reports said the entire base was on lockdown, but a post on the base's official Facebook page said that was not the case and gates continued operating normally at the facility.
