DC Police Charge 2 In 2 Fatal Shooting Cases
Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department charged two individuals in connection with two recent fatal shootings.
WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested two individuals Thursday in connection with two separate fatal shootings, one in Barry Farm and the other in Fairlawn, according to police releases.
In the first case, officers from the Seventh District responded on May 31, around 1:02 p.m., to the report of a shooting in the 2500 block of Elvans Road, S.E. They discovered an adult male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but all life-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. Police identified the decedent as Richard Mitchell, 25, of Oxon Hill, Maryland.
Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Fugitive Regional Task Force arrested Jonathan Jenkins 28, of no fixed address Thursday, and charged him with second degree murder.

Around 8:12 p.m. on June 19, officers from the Sixth District responded to the 1500 block of 19th Street, S.E., for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment, but all life-saving efforts failed and hew was pronounced dead. Police identified the decedent as Alante Moore, 28, of Southwest

A short time later, officers found a second adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.
Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant Thursday, MPD homicide detectives arrested Philbert Griffith Jr., 20, of Southeast, and charged him with first degree murder while armed (premeditated). This case remains under investigation.
