Police began performing first aid as one of the victims showed signs of life-threatening injuries, D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said at an early Friday morning news briefing. That person, Eyon Falby, 65, of Northwest D.C., later died from his injuries. The other shooting victim is expected to survive their injuries.
While performing first aid to the victims, officers saw a person fleeing the scene in a red Kia. Police chased after the vehicle.

The vehicle struck a marked MPD cruiser a couple blocks north of the shootings and then ultimately stopped when it struck multiple parked cars in the 6300 block of 9th Street Northwest, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Officers approached the overturned vehicle and told the suspect to exit. The MPD said officers saw the suspect brandish a firearm from inside the vehicle.
After the suspect ignored multiple commands from MPD officers to drop the weapon, an officer fired his gun, striking the suspect. The suspect was then transported to an area hospital for treatment of his gunshot injuries. He is expected to survive, the D.C. police said.

The suspect’s gun was reported stolen in June from Landover, Maryland, according to the police.
The suspect, Daron Barnes, 30, of Northwest D.C., was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer, carrying a pistol without a license, felon in possession, fleeing from a law enforcement officer in a motor vehicle, possession of unregistered ammunition, leaving after colliding and receiving stolen property.
Barnes was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a domestic violence assault that occurred on Aug. 18 inside a residence in the 2500 block of 14th Street Northeast.
The D.C. police officer who shot Barnes has been placed on administrative leave under department policy. The responding officers' body-worn cameras are currently under review, the police said.
