WASHINGTON, DC — The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in the Feb. 8 fatal shooting of a teenager from Alexandria in Southeast D.C.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, members of the MPD’s Seventh District went to the Unit block of Chesapeake Street SE in response to a report of a shooting. When they arrived, police found a juvenile male victim, inside of a vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Last Friday, the victim died from his injuries.

The police identified the victim as DeShaun Francis, 16, of Alexandria.

A suspect was captured by a nearby surveillance camera.

The MPD offers rewards of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s text tip line by sending a text message to 50411.
