First-Degree Murder Conviction For DC Man In Attack On 81-year-old

A D.C. man faces a possible life sentence after a jury convicted him on Wednesday of first-degree murder in the death of Bobby Poole Jr.

WASHINGTON, DC — A federal jury found a Washington, D.C., resident guilty of first-degree murder and other charges in the death of an 81-year-old man in 2020, according to a release.

Tyrone Williams, 52, was also found guilty of robbing the man, Bobby Poole Jr.

Poole was walking home at 11:45 a.m. on March 29, 2020, after visiting a convenience store. Williams and a second assailant knocked Poole to the ground in the 900 block of Eastern Avenue, Northeast, according to authorities. The two then went through his pockets, police said.

During the robbery, Poole hit his head on a metal fence and suffered brain injuries, according to evidence presented at the trial. On May 6, 2020, he died from complications of blunt force trauma to the head.

While surveillance video from the convenience store did not show the attack, it did show that Williams was following Poole, police said. A witness who ran into Williams at the store reported seeing Williams and the second assailant fleeing the area where Poole was found. Williams appeared at the store following the attack and was identified through the surveillance video, according to authorities.
