Homicide Victim Found Miles From Where Fatal Assault Occurred: Police

The assault that led to 58-year-old Eduardo Cruz's death in January occurred about 2 miles from where he was found by police.

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. homicide detectives are investigating the blunt-force-trauma death of 58-year-old Eduardo Cruz of Northwest, who was found inside a vehicle on Jan. 25, about 2 miles from where police say he was assaulted.

Around 12 a.m., D.C. police found Cruz inside a vehicle in the 4800 block of Colorado Avenue, Northwest. He was unconscious, unresponsive and appeared to be suffering from injuries received during an assault, according to a police release.

D.C. Fire & EMS took Cruz to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries and died on Jan. 29.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Cruz had died due to complications caused by blunt force trauma. The death was ruled a homicide.

Through their investigation, police determined that Cruz had been assaulted at a residence in the 3700 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest, which was about 2 miles from where he had been found.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who supplies information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person responsible for a homicide in the District.
