Indoor Mask Mandate Ends Monday, Despite D.C. Council Objections

Earlier this week, ten council members wrote Bowser an open letter asking her to keep the mandate in place.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The indoor mask mandate in Washington, D.C. will end Monday as planned, even after 10 members of Council urged Mayor Muriel Bowser to reconsider, a report says.

City administrator Kevin Donahue cited public health data in explaining to council members why Bowser would not change her decision during a call Friday, according to DCist.

Earlier this week, ten council members wrote Bowser an open letter asking her to keep the mandate in place.

Masks will still be required, regardless of vaccination status, in these places:

  • Any private business that wants a mask requirement.
  • On public transport like buses and trains, inside train stations, in airports, and while in ride-share vehicles.
  • Inside schools, childcare facilities and libraries.
  • Congregate facilities, such as nursing homes/assisted living facilities, shelters, dorms/residences and correctional facilities.
  • In DC Government facilities where there is direct interaction between employees and the public like a DMV service center.
