Man Wanted For Homicide In DC Apprehended By Border Patrol In Arizona

U.S. Border Patrol officers arrest a man wanted for second degree murder in the blunt force trauma death of Ramon Gomez-Yanez in D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Border Patrol officers in Douglas, Arizona arrested a man wanted in connection with the fatal beating of 38-year-old Ramon Gomez-Yanez of Northwest in March, according to a release.

Alvin Cruz-Garcia 24, of no fixed address was taken into custody on Friday. He was wanted on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant for second degree murder related to Gomez-Yanez's death. Cruz-Garcia is in the process of being extradited to the District, where he will be officially charged.

Metropolitan Police Department officers were called around 8:50 p.m., on March 23, to the 1500 Block of Ogden Street, Northwest for the report of an unconscious person. The officers found Gomez-Yanez unconscious and unresponsive.

Emergency medical personnel examined Gomez-Yanez and determined that he had died.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Cruz-Garcia had died from blunt force trauma and his death was ruled a homicide.
