MPD Investigates Fatal Shooting Near DC Convention Center

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man last Saturday in Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man last Saturday in Northwest D.C. two blocks from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

At about 11:15 p.m. on July 31, D.C. police officers were in the area when they heard the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival at the 700 block of O Street NW, members found a man, Kervin Sanches of Northeast D.C., suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported Sanches to a local hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A second man sought treatment at a local hospital for a gunshot wound in the same incident. He is expected to survive.

Two vehicles and a person of interest were captured by a nearby surveillance camera. The first vehicle is described as a gray Pontiac G6. The second vehicle is described as a silver 4-door Chrysler 300. The person of interest is described as Black male with long locks, the MPD said.
