Rick And Morty Pub In DC Shut Down: Report

The Wubba Lubba Dub PUB will not be coming to the Shaw neighborhood after all.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Bad news, local Rick and Morty Fans: the Wubba Lubba Dub PUB is not happening in the Shaw neighborhood.

The Drink Company -- the same group that created D.C. pop-up bars devoted to Christmas, the cherry blossoms, and even Game of Thrones -- had planned to open the pub devoted to the popular Cartoon Network TV series "Rick and Morty" at 1839 7th Street NW from Aug. 9-Oct. 6. But the opening date was first pushed back, and then DC Eater reported that it wouldn't happen at all.

Basically, Drink Company wasn't able to come to an agreement with Cartoon Network.

"Turner Broadcasting/Cartoon Network wasn’t willing to let us do that and demanded we shut down," Drink Company posted on their Facebook page. "We then reached an agreement, and thus delayed for a week, but they changed their minds, threatened us with exorbitant fees and then took everything off the table today and refused to talk any further."

It's a sad result for the company, as the mother of their CEO actually made hand sewn Meeseeks, and had an artist do graffiti work, among other design elements.

"Now we have to lay off our beloved employees and take a massive financial hit, all because Turner Broadcasting/Cartoon Network are unwilling to figure out a way to let a great fan tribute happen," the company added. "We are so sorry to all the fans but we also have learned a valuable lesson: when it comes to free speech and fair use, Turner Broadcasting/Cartoon Network believes that should only be a joke on the show."

Rick and Morty is a science-fiction comedy series that follows the adventures of alcoholic mad-scientist Rick and his grandson Morty as they travel together through space and time.
