Teacher Gunned Down At D.C. University, Suspect In Custody
Jaime Maceo, 22, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 25-year-old Maxwell Emerson, of Kentucky.
WASHINGTON, DC — Authorities on Tuesday arrested a man they say gunned down a Kentucky teacher and wrestling coach last week on Catholic University's campus.
Jaime Maceo, 22, of Washington, D.C., is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 25-year-old Maxwell Emerson of Crestwood, Kentucky. According to an NBC Washington report, Emerson was on his way to a professional development workshop for teachers when he was fatally shot in front of Father O'Connell Hall.
Police said the shooting happened shortly after 8:20 a.m. Emerson was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

According to a Washington Post report, Maceo was arrested after a person spotted him at Judiciary Square. Before his arrest, police had posted pictures of a possible suspect taken from surveillance video.
Emerson was a social studies teacher and assistant wrestling coach at Oldham County High School near Louisville, according to reports.

Family members told the Louisville Courier-Journal that Emerson texted his mother before the shooting, telling her he was being robbed at gunpoint.
A GoFundMe page started to raise money for funeral expenses described Emerson as a "wise, witty, and hardworking individual" who cherished his family.
"He brought laughter and happiness wherever he went, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched," the page read.
